V\u00a0prosinci 1908 se ji\u017e proh\u00e1n\u011bly prvn\u00ed elektrick\u00e9 vlaky na t\u00e9to trase, byl to jeden z\u00a0posledn\u00edch po\u010din\u016f budovatelsk\u00fdch pl\u00e1n\u016f Rakouska-Uherska, kter\u00e9 pak p\u0159eru\u0161ila v\u00e1lka a vznik samostatn\u00e9 \u010ceskoslovensk\u00e9 republiky. V\u00fdstavba samotn\u00e9 trat\u011b trvala pouh\u00e9 dva roky, na tehdej\u0161\u00ed dobu rekordn\u00ed po\u010din. Sou\u010d\u00e1st\u00ed trat\u011b byla pochopiteln\u011b i elektrifikace sto\u017e\u00e1ry vysok\u00e9ho nap\u011bt\u00ed 550 V. Tehdy ov\u0161em ne\u0161lo o TE\u017d, ale o tzv. \u201eSmokoveckou elektrickou vicin\u00e1ln\u00ed dr\u00e1hu\u201c. P\u016fvodn\u011b bylo v\u00a0pl\u00e1nu vybudovat elektrifikovanou tra\u0165 i do Liptovsk\u00e9ho Hr\u00e1dku a Tatransk\u00e9 Kotliny, pl\u00e1ny v\u0161ak zhatila prvn\u00ed sv\u011btov\u00e1 v\u00e1lka.V\u00a0roce 1970 byla postavena na \u0160trbsk\u00e9m Plese modern\u00ed prosklen\u00e1 budova n\u00e1dra\u017e\u00ed a mezi roky 1983 a 1986 se prov\u00e1d\u011bla rekonstrukce, resp. v\u00fdm\u011bna v\u0161ech kolejnic za nov\u00fd typ, spolu s\u00a0t\u00edm byla zapo\u010data stavba modern\u00edho z\u00e1zem\u00ed stanice Poprad \u2013 Tatry, kterou se poda\u0159ilo dokon\u010dit v\u00a0roce 1991.D\u00e9lka cel\u00e9ho \u00faseku z\u00a0Popradu do \u0160trbsk\u00e9ho Plesa je 29 km a z\u00a0Tatransk\u00e9 Lomnice do Star\u00e9ho Smokovce 6 km. V\u00a0sou\u010dasn\u00e9 dob\u011b se tu svezete vlakem vyroben\u00fdm ve slovensk\u00e9m m\u011bst\u011b Vr\u00fatky pod \u0161v\u00fdcarskou licenc\u00ed.
